Greetings all,
Mobile devices like smartphones and tablets are fast becoming the primary way that many people use the Internet. A Gartner research report suggests that by 2013, mobile phones will overtake PCs as the most common web access device worldwide. This boom is driven by several factors: cheaper devices, stable mobile OS platforms, continued network improvements and, most importantly, mobile-friendly Web sites and apps.
Designing and development for the mobile Web also got easier - you no longer have to get your hands dirty with WAP, J2ME, XHTML MP or Flash Lite. Instead, you can use the same technologies that you would when developing for web browsers, for example, HTML/HTML5, CSS, JavaScript and Flash in some cases.
Before you jump on the mobile bandwagon, it is critical to understand the limitations of the different mobile devices and networks. To assist you in making your Web site mobile-friendly, we're featuring a series of articles on mobile web development.
Our
Mobile Web Development Primer lays out a blueprint for your mobile strategy. We'll review the constraints of mobile web and demonstrate 6 ways to make your site mobile friendly. Our next article shares some of the
